Ravenswood in-home Documentary Newborn Session
I met this sweet family earlier this month at their home in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighboorhood for an in-home documentary style newborn session. We had a consultation call after their booking was complete so that we could get to know each other a bit before the session I and got the inside scoop on their older kids and their personalities/interests as well hear about what Mom’s goals were for the shoot. We also had a chance to discuss what a documentary style session might look like for them. I wanted to focus on what their day might be like and shape a loose plan so that they could focus on enjoying the morning with their kids rather than posing for pictures.
Their newborn was uniquely chill for the shoot! I really have no idea what’s going to happen when I arrive for a newborn session - sometimes baby is sleepy, sometimes they’re ravenous, sometimes they need to be held for the whole shoot and sometimes they’re screaming. This baby slept THE ENTIRE SESSION!
I’m there to document whatever the day holds and honestly that’s the beauty of it. Is it always peaceful, no. Is it honest, yes.
Big brother was very careful and sweet wit his baby sister and big sister had clearly taken on the roll of “mini mommy” as she carried around her stuffed animal, blanket and shopping cart. She was VERY busy with her new responsibilities. 😂 She had her own plans for the day and neither I nor her parents were going to get in the way of that!
They were all a delight to work with and I left the shoot feeling so thankful for family, children and seeing such joy and flexibility the parents held in the midst of whatever life holds was truly inspiring. These kids are super lucky to have this mommy and daddy.
